The goal of the City of Salem's Communications Department is to keep members of the community informed in a timely manner about current events, programs, and news related to city government and the school division.
Through the use of print materials, social media, the internet, advertising, and the city's informational alert system, the office strives to promote Salem's image as Virginia's Championship City. The Communications Department employees work to highlight Salem's many outstanding qualities by raising the public's awareness of the city's daily operations and its many accomplishments.
The Communications Director is the official spokesperson for both the City and the Salem City School system when it comes to inquiries from the media and others. This person also serves as the FOIA officer for the city and school division.
